Most Interesting Twitter Rant by a Player

And the award goes to… the incomparable @SvetlanaK27, in a landslide 49%.

Don’t Jurge her!

Runner-up trophy to @TipsarevicJanko for Trip-gate, with 29% of the vote.

Honourable mention to @feliciano_lopez for his memorable contribution to Trip-gate. Sticking up for his colleagues; and according to at least one write-in vote, has a special name for the U.S. Open. :)

Best use of Twitter by a Player

No surprises here. With 29% of the vote, @andyroddick and @andreapekovic tied for first place. Click the pics to see why.

Both, prolific twitterers: highly interactive, entertaining, opinionated, and supportive of their colleagues. Too many good ones to post, just scoll their streams at your leisure.

Worst Use of Twitter by a Player

Take a bow, Serena. SW ran away with an overwhelming 54% of vote.

Serena does a lot of self-promotion—let’s face it, she’s got a lot to sell.

But she does an equal amount of charitable marketing as well.

With a healthy does of hustling on behalf of her besties :)

So why is the WTA’s most successful 2010 winner (that’s right), rubbing so many Twits the wrong way?

Hint: She rarely twitters about TENNIS!

Best Tennis Media Twit

Another tie! Patrick McEnroe and Wertheim share the wealth with 26% a piece.

Tweet below is essential PMac, once a coach, always a coach. Even if it is his job, I suspect that’s his general disposition.

As testament to this award—as seen below—I can only divine that the man’s got astronomically high standards! Just don’t mention red carpets or olive oil. You’ve been warned.

Worst Tennis Media Twit

With 31% of the vote, the award goes to Matt Cronin.

Why? Maybe he doesn’t have the high standards of a Wertheim. Tweets like the following may have something to do with it, methinks.

King was responding to news that she chose to pass on Fed Cup. #FactCheck

Federer has body parts all over twitter (@RogersCurls, @RogerLeftArm, @RogersChest), but they are no substitute for the whole man. 20% isn’t a mandate, but it was enough for 1st place. Last seen in London:

Not surprising, is the close runner-up with 17%. Last seen in Argentina. Pic courtesy of ‘lil sis @dinariK27 More Marat, please?

A Tempest in 140 characters

Two words likely to cause a Twitter brush fire if paired in the same tweet.

1st prize: Federer + Arrogant 49%

In keeping with the good vibes of the season, I’ll omit examples. :)

Surprise, surprise. This player gained my support based on tweets.

First Prize: Robin Soderling. Holding it down with 22% (I’m not surprised).

Tennis media did a number on Soderling during and after Wimbledon 2007. Twitter allows us to see the charming young man behind the scowl and towel. (Click the pic, you’ll see.)

Surprise, surprise. This player lost my support based on tweets.

Serena claims a winning 25% of the vote. But Don’t cry for Serena, 13 majors and counting…
